Iran Deputy FM: Saudi Arabia Visit Not on Agenda

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian diplomat denied reports that Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is scheduled to pay a visit to Saudi Arabia.

“No plan is currently on the agenda of the Iranian foreign minister for a visit to Saudi Arabia,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for African and Middle Eastern Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said.

However, he said, Iran has already invited Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal to make an official visit to Tehran, IRNA reported.

The London-based newspaper al-Hayat had earlier quoted some sources in Iran as saying that preparations are being made for a visit by Iranian foreign minister to Saudi Arabia but the exact date for the trip has not been determined yet.

Back in May, Faisal said Riyadh had invited Zarif to visit the kingdom, but the following day Iran announced that it has not received any letter from Saudi Arabia inviting the Iranian minister to visit Riyadh.
