Israeli Army Too Weak to Enter Long-Term War: Palestinian Envoy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A Palestinian Islamic Jihad representative in Tehran said Israel’s ground attack on Gaza is an unlikely possibility since Israeli military is “very fragile and weak” for long-term war.

“Considering the 22-day war and other wars between Israel and the Palestinian resistance, we could see the resistance has simple facilities but can target Israel’s weaknesses and, somehow, create deterrent power for defending the Palestinian nation,” the representative of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement in Tehran, Nasser Abu Sharif, told the Tasnim News Agency Wednesday.

Abu Sharif stressed that Israeli regime considers the Palestinian nation as its biggest strategic threat and that is why the regime keeps efforts to weaken Palestine and kill resistance spirit of the Palestinian nation.

The Palestinian envoy underlined that Israel occasionally finds excuses to launch military offensives on Palestinians in order to escape realities such as the collapse of the so-called peace talks.

Abu Sharif further criticized the Arab countries for their silence over Israeli attacks on the besieged Gaza, saying such countries are busy with affairs contrary to the interests of the Muslim nations.

He said some of these Arab countries are busy forming dangerous organizations such as the ISIL (the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant) and destroying Syria and Iraq, while others are troubled with their own internal challenges and do not care about the Palestinian issue.

Tensions heightened between Palestinians and Israelis after the burning alive of a Palestinian teen in East al-Quds last week. The 16-year-old teenager, Mohammed Abu Khdeir, was bundled into a car and later burnt to death by Israeli settlers.

His death has sparked a wave of protests across the Palestinian territories.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces bombed dozens of sites in the Gaza Strip and Palestinian resistance movements in Gaza have responded to Israel’s aggression by targeting Israeli sites.
