Iran's Powerlifter Handed Two-Year Doping Ban

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian world silver medalist powerlifter Roohallah Rostami failed a doping test, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) announced on Tuesday.

Rostami has been suspended for two years, as well as a fine of €1,500, for use of the prohibited substance methylhexaneamine at the IPC Powerlifting World Championships in Dubai, UAE held in April.

This substance is included on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) 2014 Prohibited List under the category S6. Stimulants and is prohibited in-competition.

He will be ineligible from competition for two years from 7 April 2014. Rostami will also be stripped of all of his results since the positive test occurred, and this will include the World Championship silver medal he initially won in the under 72kg division behind Egyptian winner Mohamed Elelfat.

As a result, Russia’s bronze medallist Sergei Sychev will receive the silver and China’s Peng Hu will move up from fourth to bronze.
