Mashaba Appointed South Africa Football Coach

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - South African Football Association (SAFA) appointed Ephraim 'Shakes' Mashaba as the new head coach of the South African football team.

Iran coach Carlos Queiroz and Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi were among the candidates but SAFA opted South Africa U-23 coach Ephraim "Shakes" Mashaba as the new head coach.

"As we speak Shakes Mashaba is the senior national team's coach," SAFA president Danny Jordaan told reporters at SAFA House in Nasrec, Soweto.

"We ask for patience from the public and the media. Let us watch Shakes grow into this role."

Mashaba, 63, replaced outgoing boss Gordon Igesund, whose contract runs out at the end of the August.
