Bahraini Opposition Calls for More Protests against Regime
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Bahrain's Shiite-led opposition also known as 'February 14 youth coalition' has called for further anti-regime protests until their legitimate demands are met.
In a statement, the group has announced Tuesday as 'a Day to Repudiate King Hamad (the ruler of the country)'. It also reiterated the right of Bahraini people to determine their own fate and described claims that the ruling al-Khalifa family enjoys public support as false and deceiving.
On Monday, mass anti-regime demonstrations were held across the tiny Persian Gulf Kingdom in solidarity with opposition protesters who remain in prison, many of them without trial.
Since mid-February 2011, pro-democracy protesters have held numerous demonstrations in the streets of Bahrain, calling for the Al Khalifa royal family to relinquish power.
On March 14, 2011, troops from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were deployed to assist the Bahraini government in its crackdown on peaceful protesters.
Despite the brutal crackdown against the opposition, anti-regime demonstrations have continued unabated.
