Terrorism, Extremism Imperil Int’l Community: Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said terrorism and extremism pose serious “challenge and threat” both to the Middle East region and the international community.

In a Tuesday meeting with his Luxembourgian counterpart Jean Asselborn, Zarif noted that Iran and Luxemburg can cooperate on the issues of mutual concern, namely the threat of terrorism and extremism.

The top Iranian diplomat also urged collective efforts to battle those challenges, and added, “Sponsors of terrorism should stop such supports in the various financial, military and intelligence forms.”

Asselborn, for his part, hailed Iran’s outstanding position in the region, saying his country attaches importance to consultations with Iran on diverse issues.

“Luxembourg welcomes the strengthening and step-by-step expansion of relations (with Iran),” he added.

Back in June, Asselborn had paid an official visit to Iran and discussed a range of issues with the Iranian officials.

The European diplomat had already underlined that it is “crucial to maintain strong relations” with the Islamic Republic, since the country exerts a “huge” influence in the Middle East region and beyond.
