Bahraini Figure: Inclusive Government Only Way to End Crisis in Bahrain

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary General of Bahrain’s main opposition party, Al-Wefaq, said public participation in the country’s governance is the only way to form an advanced democratic government and end the current crisis.

Sheikh Ali Salman blamed Al Khalifa regime’s insistence to have a monopoly on decision-making process and the nation’s wealth as among the main reasons behind the widespread public discontent and the ongoing wave of protests.

Referring to the upcoming parliamentary and municipal elections in October, the leading opposition figure also added that the ruling family is only trying to implement cosmetic changes without considering the legitimate demands and the will of the people.

Since mid-February 2011, pro-democracy protesters have held demonstrations in the streets of Bahrain on almost daily basis, calling for the Al Khalifa royal family to relinquish power.

On March 14, 2011, troops from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were deployed to assist the Bahraini government in its crackdown on peaceful protesters.

Despite the brutal crackdown against the opposition, anti-regime demonstrations have continued unabated.
