Official: Takfiri Groups on Mission to Harm Image of Islam
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Takfiri terrorists in Iraq and Syria are active in the region within the framework of a broader plot hatched by the hegemonic powers to harm the image of Islam and create discord among Muslims worldwide, said a senior Iranian official.
Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), said "the brutal and violent" actions of these groups are part of a wider strategy designed to undermine the image of Islam and create strategic indifference in the face of objectives pursued by the hegemonic system.
The US has been the main backer of terror groups and the fact that it has now been forced to encounter the ever-increasing threat of Takfiri terrorists has proved the failure of its plans in the region,Shamkhani told a gathering of senior Iranian clerics in the capital Tehran.
He also added that “terror groups that do not believe in any religion and faith are the main tools of confronting the Islamic awakening (movement).”
The Islamic Awakening movement, is referred to the wave of popular uprisings first started in 2011 in Tunisia. The movement swept across several other nations in the Middle East and North Africa and toppled dictators and rulers in those countries.
Shamkhani also described Iran as the anchor of stability in the region and the main reason behind the hegemonic powers' failure to dramatically change the geopolitics of the region.
