Iran's Speaker Blasts US Adventurism in Middle East

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani lashed out at the US for its adventurism in the Middle East region and destruction of Syria’s infrastructures in the name of countering terrorism.

Speaking in a cultural ceremony in Tehran on Wednesday, Larijani said Washington has always sought the policy of adventurism in the region and has a hand in all incidents in the region.

He also lashed out at the West for trying to abuse the regional conditions to achieve its own purposes.

“Today, the situation (in the region) is in a way that the Americans seek to create a coalition under the pretext of attacking the ISIL and are hitting Syria’s sites. They (Americans) are today destroying Syria’s infrastructures on that pretext,” he added.

His comments came in reaction to the US-led airstrikes which continue to target Syrian infrastructure under the control of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorists in northern and eastern Syria.

Since September 22, the US and its allies, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Jordan, have been conducting airstrikes against the ISIL inside Syria without any authorization from Damascus or a UN mandate.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani pointed to a recent security agreement between the US and Afghanistan, noting that Washington rushed to sign the pact in a bid to avoid losing control of the region.

“Countering the ISIL and terrorism is a pretext for the signing of the deal in Afghanistan and extended military presence in Iraq and carrying out the plan with which the Americans have been entangled for three years,” the Iranian speaker explained.
