Iran Basketball Team Wins Silver in Asian Games

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran basketball team lost to host South Korea 79-77 in the final match of the 2014 Asian Games on Friday.

It was South Korea’s first gold at the Asian games since 2002 and Iran could not win its first ever gold medal in the games held in Incheon, South Korea.

Samad Nikkhah Bahrami led Iran with 30 points and Taejong Moon top scored the Korean team with 19 points.

“We made so many mistakes against South Korea. They took advantage of our weak points and we have to strengthen ourselves for the next competitions,” Iran's captain Nikkhah Bahrami said.

Some 9,500 athletes from 45 countries are competing at the Games, the world's second-biggest multi-sport event after the summer Olympics, with 439 gold medals in 36 sports up for grabs.

Iran has participated in the games with 276 athletes in 22 sports.
