Iran Hails Russia’s Role in Nuclear Talks as “Constructive”

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian diplomat emphasized that the Russia has always played "a constructive and positive role" in the nuclear negotiations between Tehran and six world powers.

“The Russian delegation and Mr. Sergei Ryabkov, deputy foreign minister, have always played a positive and constructive role during the nuclear negotiations and have made efforts to facilitate a final deal through offering creative and useful proposals,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Saturday.

Araqchi, who is a member of the Iranian team of negotiators, made the remarks in a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Tehran Levan Dzhagaryan on Saturday as Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) are planned to resume the nuclear talks in the Austrian capital of Vienna on Tuesday.

He also paid tribute to the Chinese delegation’s significant role in the nuclear talks and stressed the need to continue consultation among Tehran, Moscow and Beijing on the Islamic Republic’s peaceful nuclear program.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Araqchi said Tehran is ready to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to resolve outstanding issues about its nuclear work.

The Russian ambassador, for his part, underlined that Moscow is determined to help end the disputes over Tehran’s nuclear activities.

Earlier on Friday, Araqchi had announced that the next round of negotiations on Iran’s civilian nuclear activity will start in Vienna on Tuesday, October 14 and run until Wednesday, October 15.
