Iran Denies PGCC Chief's Claim on Interference in Arab States' Affairs
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An official at Iran’s Foreign Ministry dismissed as "baseless" the recent allegation raised by the secretary general of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC), who has accused Tehran of interfering in the affairs of some Arab countries.
“The Islamic Republic’s foreign policy is based on moderation, political rationality, good neighborliness and non-interference in the affairs of the neighboring countries,” the foreign ministry official stated.
The official called on countries which have strengthened terrorist groups in the region through their measures as well as financial and political support to make up for their past mistakes and show seriousness in the fight against terrorist groups instead of raising such a divisive remarks.
The official also said Iran has played a “constructive role” in the restoration of stability to the Middle East region by adopting a “responsible” behavior toward the regional developments and counter-terrorism.
The reaction by the Iranian official came after PGCC Secretary General Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani on Wednesday claimed that Iran is pursuing the policy of interference in the domestic affairs of some Arab countries.
