ISIL Threatens Entire World: Leading Iranian Politician

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The head of the Strategic Research Center of Iran's Expediency Council warned against terrorist acts of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in the region, describing the extremist group as a threat to the entire region and the world.

“ISIL, as a Takfiri and extremist group, acts against all international regulations with the support of certain countries, and is dangerous to the entire region and the world,” Ali Akbar Velayati said during a meeting with Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende in Tehran on Saturday.

“(Nationals of) some European countries are members of the terrorist group, which is very unfortunate,” he added.

Velayati also touched upon the problems created by the terrorist group in the region, saying that the Middle East region is facing serious crises, including the situations in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen.

The Iranian official went on to say that the Middle East as “the crossroads of the world” should be stable and secure.

As regards Tehran-Oslo relations, Velayati expressed the hope that the Norwegian minister's visit to Iran would further promote the level of bilateral ties.

Brende, for his part, commented on the objectives behind his official visit to the Islamic Republic and said he has come to Iran to discuss important issues with the country’s high-ranking officials and revive bilateral trade ties.
