Iran Dismisses US Claim on IR-5 Centrifuges as “Propaganda Campaign”

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Foreign Ministry rejected the US State Department’s claim that Tehran has agreed to stop the activities of the IR-5 centrifuges and described it as “Propaganda Campaign”.

“IR-5 centrifuges are among ordinary machines of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), whose tests had begun prior to Geneva deal and continued after the deal,” Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said in a statement on Tuesday evening.

She also emphasized that the centrifuges have been tested again since last April as part of research programs of the AEOI.

She further noted that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has in the past seven months confirmed Iran’s commitment to Geneva deal and that Iran has not violated the agreement.

The spokeswoman went on to say that raising such issues is just part of “media propaganda campaign and is of no importance”.

She said that the machines would be tested whenever needed and the testing would stop whenever there is no need.

Earlier on Monday, US State Department spokeswoman, Jen Psaki, had said that the issue of IR-5 was raised with Iran as soon as the IAEA reported it, and it was resolved immediately.

“The Iranians have confirmed that they will not continue that activity as cited in the IAEA report, so it’s been resolved,” Psaki claimed.
