Taliban Violent Offensives Claims 17 Lives in Afghanistan
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Taliban militants unleashed at least four suicide bombings, including two in the capital city Kabul and two others in their former stronghold the southern Helmand province, since Thursday, officials said.
The attacks have cost the lives of 17 people, including 10 suicide bombers, according to officials.
In the latest incident, a suicide bomber blew up his explosive-laden car next to a checkpoint in Nawzad district of Helmand province at around noon Friday, killing two police and injuring four others, police said.
"A suicide bomber blew up his explosive-laden car next to a police checkpoint in Nawzad district at around 11:30 a.m. local time today, killing two police and injuring four others," Helmand' s provincial police spokesman Farid Ahmad Obid told reporters.
The bomber was also killed in the blast, he added. He blamed the Taliban militants for the attack.
The spokesman also said that a suicide bomber targeted a base of the Afghan army in Shorab district, Helmand province late Thursday night, enabling four others to enter the base during which all the five bombers were killed in blasts and firefight which lasted for a while. Three soldiers were injured during the clash and suicide bombing, he said.
In another incident, a suicide bomber targeted a vehicle of the British embassy in Kabul on Thursday morning, killing himself and five others, according to police, Xinhua reported.
Thirty-three others sustained injuries in the deadly attack, police said.
Moreover, the hardliner Taliban organized a three-man suicide attack against the office of International Relief and Development, a non-governmental organization supporting Afghanistan in several fields including agriculture and capacity building, Kabul police spokesman Hashmat Stanikzai told media.
He added that one attacker blew himself up and was killed in his blast and two others were killed in the ensuing clash with the security personnel.
One foreign national believed to be a Nepalese was injured during the incident, according to police. There were no other casualties on security personnel or civilians, police stressed.
