Iran Highlights Expansion of Ties with Latin American Countries
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for European and Latin American Affairs emphasized on Monday the significance of expanding ties with Latin American nations.
In a meeting with the ambassadors of Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) member states in Tehran, Majid Takht Ravanchi highlighted the expansion of relations with Latin American countries, especially those sharing views with Iran on foreign policy issues.
The Iranian official referred to the excellent political ties between Iran and ALBA countries right now, and underscored the abundant capacities for economic cooperation between the two sides.
Takht Ravanchi further said that Iran is ready to expand mutual cooperation with the Latin American countries and provide them with technical and engineering aids.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran and the ALBA countries share common views in different fields,” Iran’s deputy foreign minister said, adding that the two sides can have extensive cooperation given the common goals.
Venezuelan ambassador to Iran, one of the envoys attending the meeting, referred to Western political pressures and economic sanctions imposed on Iran, calling them counterproductive.
Ambassadors of Cuba, Nicaragua, and Ecuador in Iran and the political envoy of Bolivian embassy were among other members addressing the meeting.
Founded initially by Cuba and Venezuela in December 2004, the ALBA is an international cooperation organization including the countries of Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Venezuela and Saint Lucia.
