Iran's MP Slams West’s Double-Standard Approach in Fight against Terrorism

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The vice-speaker of Iran's parliament censured double-standard policies adopted by the West toward the campaign against terrorism, saying that combating terrorist groups needs sincerity and serious determination.

Speaking at a meeting with Claudia Roth, the visiting vice-president of the German Bundestag (parliament) in Tehran on Sunday, Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi-Fard said some political powers and groups are violating human rights under the guise of (protecting) the rights.

“The fight against the inauspicious phenomenon of terrorism, as a global problem, requires serious determination and cooperation among all countries that are sincere in this regard,” he noted, pointing to the spread of terrorism and extremism in the region.

As regards Iran-Germany relations, he said the two countries have great potentials for the expansion of political, economic and industrial ties, which should be utilized.

Roth, for her part, pointed to the latest developments in the Middle East region and the spread of terrorist groups, saying that given Iran’s good record in promoting regional security, the country can play a vital role in this regard.

The German MP also expressed the hope that the level of mutual cooperation between Tehran and Berlin would increase in all spheres.
