2 Soldiers Injured in Eastern Afghan Blast

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Two soldiers were wounded in an explosion in eastern Afghan province of Kunar overnight, a source said on Saturday.

"During a joint operation carried out by Afghan army and police to clear the main road to Nari district, one army vehicle ran over a roadside bomb and the blast injured two army soldiers on Friday night," provincial police chief General Abdul Habib Sayyedkhil told Xinhua.

The injured were shifted to an army base and one army vehicle was destroyed by the blast in the district bordering Pakistan, the source noted.

"The Nari district road has been blocked over the past week after militants planted several landmines. About 18 bombs were defused as a result of the above operation. The road is opened for public now," the police chief added.

The Taliban militant group has intensified attacks with a string of bombings and armed attacks over the past couple of months as the Afghan security forces assumed the full security charges from NATO-led troops earlier this year.

On Friday, 10 civilians were wounded during an exchange of fire between security forces and militants in Alasay district of neighboring Kapisa province, a local official told Xinhua earlier on the day.
