Cleric Hails Iran’s Success in Nuclear Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian cleric praised as “outstanding” the framework agreement that Iran and world powers reached over Tehran’s nuclear program, describing that as the West’s assertion that Iran has the right to enjoy nuclear technology.

“The general framework is outstanding; it was a success for us and caused the Western world to admit Iran’s entitlement to nuclear energy for the industry and technology, and make room for us,” Tehran's provisional Friday prayers leader, Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani, said on Friday.

His comments came after Iran and six world powers on Thursday reached a framework agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program after intensive negotiations in Switzerland, with both sides committed to push for a final, comprehensive accord until the end of June.

Ayatollah Emami Kashani also noted that the statement necessitates the removal of the sanctions imposed on Iran over the past years, something the West had been disagreeing about.

The cleric also reiterated that Iran wants nuclear technology only for scientific and peaceful purposes.

He further congratulated President Hassan Rouhani and the Foreign Ministry negotiators on such a success in nuclear negotiations with the world powers.

The framework agreement was read out on Thursday night in a joint press conference in Lausanne by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini.

The framework provides a series of solutions to the differences that will be the basis of a comprehensive joint plan of action.

According to the framework agreement, the nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran by the United Nations Security Council, the European Union and the US will be removed.
