Kabul Hails Nuclear Deal between Iran, G5+1

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Afghan government expressed its support for the recent framework nuclear deal reached between Tehran and world powers in Lausanne, Switzerland, saying that it would benefit the region and the world.

Kabul on Saturday underlined support for the deal and said it is in the interest of Afghanistan, the region, and the whole world.

On Thursday, Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached a framework agreement on Tehran's civilian nuclear program after more than a week of intensive negotiations in Lausanne, Switzerland, with both sides committed to push for a final, comprehensive accord until the end of June.

Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai also released a statement in which he welcomed the framework deal and considered it as a "big step" towards easing tensions in the region.

"Iran's agreement with the six world powers would provide the ground for the reinforcement of security and stability as well as the expansion of economic cooperation," Karzai said in the statement.

He further said that Iran demonstrated its political power and understanding in the recent negotiations as it managed to clinch a deal after such long talks with the Group 5+1.
