Iran, Russia Urge Further Efforts to Boost Academic Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mohammad Farhadi and the visiting Russian president's adviser on education and science stressed the need to facilitate relations between the two countries' universities and research centers.

In a meeting in Tehran on Monday, Farhadi and Andrei Fursenko discussed a whole range of issues, including ways to boost academic ties between the Islamic Republic and Russia.

In his remarks, Farhadi pointed to the current level of cooperation between Tehran and Moscow in the area of science and technology and expressed the hope that the two countries would witness closer relations in this area by implementing the agreements they have previously signed.

Fursenko, for his part, said during his eight years in office as the Russian minister of education and science he became familiar with the Iranian universities.

He emphasized the necessity for efforts to "facilitate relations between the Iranian and Russian universities and research centers".

Heading a senior delegation, Fursenko arrived in Tehran on Sunday at the invitation of Iran's Vice-President for Science and Technology Affairs Sourena Sattari.

During his two-day visit, the Russian official visited a number of scientific and industrial centers and met with a number of high-ranking Iranian officials.
