Afghan President Due in Tehran Tomorrow

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Afghan President Ashraf Ghani will pay an official visit to Tehran on Sunday to hold talks with senior Iranian officials on a host of issues, including ways to boost the relations between the two neighboring countries.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Ghani will arrive in the Iranian capital of Tehran on April 19 at the invitation of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

The Afghan president will be accompanied by a number of his cabinet ministers, including Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani, Finance Minister Eklil Ahmad Hakimi, Mines and Petroleum Mininster Daud Saba, and Minisnter of Refugees and Repatriation Sayed Hussain Alemi Balkhi.

During their two-day visit, the Afghan officials will meet with their Iranian counterparts and discuss bilateral relations as well as the latest developments in the region and the world.

In an earlier meeting with Ashraf Ghani in Kabul back in February, Iran's Vice-President for Executive Affairs Mohammad Shariatmadari reaffirmed President Rouhani's invitation to the Afghan head of state to visit Tehran.

The Afghan president had planned to travel to Iran in early March but postponed his state visit due to a fatal avalanche in his country that left more than 280 people dead.
