Iranian Diplomat Sees Sanctions as Opportunity for Syria to Reach Development

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian called on Syria to take advantage of Tehran’s experiences on sanctions, saying that Damascus should use the anti-Syria sanctions as an opportunity for development.

Despite harmful impacts, the anti-Syria sanctions and economic pressures are an important opportunity for increasing the country’s self-esteem and self-dependency, Amir Abdollahian said in a Tuesday meeting with Syrian economic activists here in Tehran.

He further referred to Iran’s experiences in resisting economic sanctions, and described them as “valuable” for Syria to continue its progress and development.

Amir Abdollahian also hailed the resistance of Syrian people and government to heavy foreign pressures and in their fight against Takfiri terrorists.

Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since March 2011 with Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) Takfiri terrorists currently controlling parts of it mostly in the east.

In the past four years, international bodies including the European Union have imposed several sanctions on Damascus, making it even more difficult for the Syrian government and army to counter the ISIL terrorists and restore peace to the Arab country.
