Iran's Trade Minister Due in Italy to Attend Expo 2015

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines, and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh will leave Tehran for Milan, Italy, on Thursday to attend Expo 2015, which is due to begin on May 1.

The Expo is a Universal Exposition that is non-commercial. It is organized by a competing country that wins the bid to host the fair and involves the participation of other nations invited through its diplomatic channels.

This year, Iran will have a self-constructed special pavilion in the Expo to introduce the country and its products to foreign visitors, investors, and tourists. With an area of 1,950 square meters, the pavilion is constructed on two levels and is inspired by the concept of Iranian Sofreh (a square piece of fabric similar to tablecloth).

According to an Iranian tourism official, Expo Milan 2015 is a global, cultural, educational and scientific event which gathers countries, organizations and communities in one place to showcase the best of their technology.

With an expected 20 million visitors to the 1.1 million square meters of exhibition area, Expo Milan will serve as a significant opportunity to attract more foreign tourists to the country, the official said.

The first Expo was held in London in 1851, and its success prompted other countries to organize similar events such as the Paris Expo in 1889, memorable for its Eiffel Tower. Each Expo is dedicated to a topic of universal interest. Expo 2015 will embody the theme of Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.

Expo Milano 2015 is the Universal Exhibition that Milan, Italy, will host from May 1 to October 31, 2015. Over this six-month period, Milan will become a global showcase where more than 140 participating countries will show the best of their technology that offers a concrete answer to a vital need: being able to guarantee healthy, safe and sufficient food for everyone, while respecting the Planet and its equilibrium.
