Drafting N. Deal in Progress despite Gaps: Iran’s Zarif

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a Monday message said negotiators are resolved to put an end to the fabricated crisis over Tehran’s nuclear energy program, adding that the deal is being drafted despite the existing differences.

In a message on his social network account, Zarif noted that drafting the deal is moving forward, but at the same time noted that many brackets and differences in views still remain.

He also emphasized that the nuclear negotiators are “determined to end this manufactured crisis and open new horizons.”

He made the remarks in reference to the ongoing talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UNSC members plus Germany) to hammer out a lasting accord that would end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran's peaceful nuclear program.

On April 2, the two sides reached a framework nuclear agreement in Lausanne, Switzerland, with both sides committed to push for a final deal until the end of June.

The latest round of talks was held between diplomats from Iran and the European Union in New York, with the parties working hard to draw up the first draft of a comprehensive agreement on Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

This round of talks, held on the sidelines of the 2015 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), are expected to continue until May 5.
