Waging War on Yemen Sign of Crisis in Saudi Arabia: Iranian MP

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker said Saudi Arabia's military campaign against Yemen demonstrates the critical situation within the Kingdom.

"Saudi Arabia's aggression against Yemen signifies that the situation is becoming critical in this country (Saudi Arabia), and such crisis is also quite obvious in the members of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council," Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi told reporters in Syria on Wednesday.

He noted that Riyadh is mired in a quagmire it has made in Yemen itself, adding that the consequences of the kingdom’s failure are evident.

For weeks, Yemen's defenseless people have been under attacks by a coalition led by Riyadh.

On March 26, the Saudi-led coalition began to launch deadly air strikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

Some seven weeks of deadly aerial attacks on Yemen have killed over 3,500 people and left some 6,200 others injured.

Meanwhile, a five-day truce took effect on Tuesday to allow delivery of humanitarian aid for Yemenis.
