Demonstrators in Saudi Arabia Condemn Terrorist Attack on Shiite Mosque
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – People took to the streets in Qatif in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province to denounce Friday’s suicide attack that killed 21 worshippers in a Shiite mosque in the province.
The massive rally was held on Saturday in condemnation of the attack that was carried out by Takfiri terrorists against innocent Shiite worshippers.
At least 21 people lost their lives and 97 others sustained injuries on Friday, when an explosion ripped through Imam Ali (PBUH) Mosque in the village of al-Qadeeh, in Qatif district.
A bomber reportedly blew himself up in the mosque as more than 150 people had gathered for Friday prayers.
Later in the day, the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group claimed in an online statement that it carried out the deadly suicide bomb attack.
The statement said "the soldiers of the Caliphate" were behind Friday's attack by a suicide bomber "who detonated an explosives belt" in the mosque in the Shiite-majority city of Qatif.
The Al Saud dynasty is among the staunch supporters of Takfiri terrorists operating in Syria and Iraq over the past years.
In a statement on Friday evening, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham slammed the attack and stressed the necessity to identify and punish the perpetrators of the terrorist move.
Countering and fighting against terrorist and extremist groups, avoiding foreign adventurism and stopping inflicting irreparable costs on regional nations are among necessary steps that should be a priority for the Saudi government, she said.
