Iranian Army Employs New Sniper in Military Drills
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Army Ground Force has unveiled and utilized a new 7.62-mm sniper rifle in large-scale military exercises held in three zones across Iran, commander of the force said.
The sniper rifle “BMG-2” can be used for clashes in a range of 800 meters, Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan told reports on the sidelines of the war game, codenamed Beit ul-Muqaddas 27.
He said the troops attending the drills employed the new rifle for encounter with the hypothetical enemy.
The exercises began on May 21 with the participation of different Ground Force units from the infantry, armored, artillery and rapid reaction divisions, as well as commandos and airborne forces.
The Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.
Back on April 18, the Army Ground Force had unveiled a 23-mm sniper rifle, the first of its kind in the world.
The Army experts have manufactured some other sniper rifles in the past, including 14.5 mm caliber “Shaher”.
In April 2014, the Army also displayed a six-barrel weapon, dubbed “Moharram”, which is a 50 caliber firearm with the high rate of fire of 2,000-2,500 rounds per minute.
The powerful machine gun can be mounted on a broad range of military vehicles, choppers, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), warships and destroyers.
