Iranian FM Urges Int'l Community to Play Role in Nuclear Talks
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called for the international community's more active role in the nuclear talks between Tehran and world powers.
"The international community should not be only an observer of the (nuclear) negotiations and needs to play a role so that they (the talks) yield results," Zarif said in a Saturday meeting in Tehran with India's Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishanka.
The Iranian diplomat also voiced Tehran's keenness for closer cooperation with New Delhi in all fields, particularly in the energy industry.
For his part, Jaishanka expressed the hope that nuclear negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) would produce results as soon as possible to pave the way for broader cooperation between Iran and India.
Iran and the six powers are in talks to hammer out a lasting accord that would end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran's civilian nuclear program.
On April 2, Iran and the sextet reached a framework nuclear agreement in Lausanne, Switzerland, with both sides committed to push for a final deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), until the end of June.
