Yemen's Ansarullah: Iran Defending Region against Israeli Threats
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The leader of Yemen's Houthi Ansarullah movement hailed Iran's supports for Muslims, saying that the Islamic Republic is defending the Middle East region against the Israeli regime.
In a speech delivered on Friday at a ceremony in Yemen marking the International Quds Day, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi pointed to the threats posed to Muslims by Israel and its regional allies, saying that Saudi Arabia is seeking to "hand over the region" to the US and Israel.
"It is only Iran that is defending the region against the threat of Israel's influence," he said, adding that Tehran is defending Muslims and Arabs and siding with the Palestinian nation.
His speech came after thousands of Yemeni people poured into the streets of the capital, Sana'a, on Friday to observe the international Quds Day and demonstrate their solidarity with the Palestinian nation.
Yemen's Quds Day rally was held as a humanitarian ceasefire took hold in the Arabian Peninsula country. Yemenis have been suffering from daily Saudi airstrikes since late March.
The humanitarian truce in Yemen did not come until Friday, more than 100 days after Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies began to launch deadly air strikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
The International Quds Day is celebrated each year on the last Friday of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan.
The day is known as the legacy of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, who officially declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day back in 1979.
