Syrian Developments Reveal Failure of West's Policies: Assad

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad highlighted the failure of Western policies in the Middle East, saying that such policies have helped the spread of terrorism.

The developments in Syria unveiled the failure of Western policies in the country and the region, al-Assad said in a meeting with Jean-Frederic Poisson, member of the National Assembly of France.

The Syrian president went on to say that the policies have played a role in the spread of terrorism in the region and its emergence in European countries.

"The failure of the West's policies in the region is a result of failing to listen to the voice of nations and following double-standard policies about terrorism," he added.

Poisson, who is also Chairman of the Christian Democratic Party, said for his part that stability of Syria would influence that of the region and Europe.

He also noted that the crisis in Syria could not be resolved without dialogue with the Syrian government and President al-Assad.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011. In the past four years, more than 200,000 people have died in Syria -overwhelmingly civilians– and around 4 million Syrian people are now refugees in other countries. Another 7.6 million are displaced inside the country.
