Iranian President Renews Call for Violence-Free World

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a meeting with visiting Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic in Tehran on Tuesday asked countries to work together for a world free from violence.

At the meeting, President Rouhani called on all countries to make joint efforts against extremism, and stated, "The Islamic Republic of Iran opposes extremism and violence anywhere.”

He further said ethnic strife and extremism would hinder the restoration of peace and security.

Different regions in the world, including the Middle East and the Balkans, should turn into regions of peace and calm, the Iranian president reiterated.

Dacic once again voiced his country’s willingness to improve ties with Iran in all fields, particularly in economic arena.

He said Serbia also calls for cooperation with Iran in energy sectors, including oil and gas.

Earlier and in a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif had welcomed a proposal by Dacic for the holding of the Iran-Serbia Joint Economic Commission.

“To that end, an economic delegation from Iran’s different government and private sectors will head for Belgrade in the future.”

The Serbian minister, for his part, voiced Belgrade’s preparedness to open a new chapter in the ties with the Islamic Republic in the political, economic, and parliamentary fields.
