Germany Seeking Expanded Economic Ties with Iran: German Official
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior German official said Berlin seeks ways to further increase economic and energy cooperation with Iran following a final nuclear agreement reached between Tehran and six world powers and the ensuing lifting of anti-Iran sanctions
Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs of Germany’s Baden-Württemberg State Nils Schmid said that his country welcomes development of ties with Iran in different economic arenas, adding that Berlin is eager to invest in Iran’s renewable energy sector once anti-Iran sanctions are lifted.
He made the remarks in a meeting with Iran's Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian in Tehran on Sunday.
Schmid expressed satisfaction over his visit to Tehran, and added that German companies are geared up to work in unison with their Iranian counterparts to set up sustainable power plants in Iran, provided both sides arrive at a consensus.
A 68-member trade delegation, led by Nils Schmid, arrived in Tehran from Germany on Sunday to start a new round of power talks over the development of electricity projects in the Islamic Republic.
The delegation is also scheduled to discuss investments in Iran’s other key sectors including the auto, the chemicals and the pharmaceutical industries.
The visit comes after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14 reached a conclusion over the text of a comprehensive 159-page deal on Tehran’s nuclear program.
The comprehensive nuclear deal between Iran and the six powers would terminate all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran after coming into force.
