Iranian Parliament’s Special Commission Continues JCPOA Scrutiny

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A special commission of the Iranian parliament set up to review the finalized text of a lasting nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), held a meeting on Monday to continue examining the text.

During the meeting, Saeed Jalili, Iran’s former chief negotiator in the nuclear talks with the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), and some of the members of his negotiating team discussed the history and process of the talks.

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi also plan to participate in another meeting of the special commission on Tuesday morning.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency earlier on Wednesday, Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini, rapporteur of the special commission, had said that members of the parliamentary team are planned to visit the country’s heavy water reactor in Arak on September 9.

Last week, 15 Iranian lawmakers were elected to the special commission.

The JCPOA, whose text was finalized in Vienna on July 14, has subjected the parties to comply with a series of commitments, resulting in the termination of sanctions on Iran in exchange for certain restrictions on Tehran’s nuclear program during a defined period of time.
