Iran’s Administration Not to Submit Bill to Parliament on JCPOA
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Spokesman for Iran’s administration said the cabinet has no plans to submit a bill to the parliament on the finalized text of a nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers, saying that handling of the case is within the purview of the Supreme National Security Council.
Speaking at a weekly press conference in Tehran on Tuesday, Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said the administration has already made it clear that there is no need for the submission of a bill on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to the legislature.
However, he added, the administration is ready to provide the parliament with any help it might need in the process of assessing the JCPOA.
According to a measure on the protection of the country’s nuclear achievements, passed by the parliament itself, the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) is entrusted with the task of handling such cases, Nobakht explained.
He said the SNSC has been thoroughly scrutinizing the JCPOA, and its officials are going to publicize the results of their assessment in the near future.
Back on July 14, Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached a conclusion on a lasting nuclear agreement that would terminate all sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear energy program after coming into force.
The 159-page deal has its own opponents and proponents both in Iran and the other countries that are parties to the JCPOA, particularly the US.
Diplomats have already made it clear that the document could be either approved or rejected, and no amendment or revision could take place.
