Austria Ready to Work with Iran to Help Settle Int’l Issues: President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Austrian President Heinz Fischer, who is visiting Tehran on an official visit, expressed his country’s willingness to cooperate with Iran on the resolution of regional and international problems.

Austria is prepared to help settle regional and international issues in partnership with the Islamic Republic of Iran, Fischer said in a Tuesday joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani in Tehran.

“We should work together to realize a world where countries coexist peacefully and respectfully and terrorism is eradicated,” he stated.

He further referred to a recent nuclear agreement reached between Iran and world powers after days of tough negotiations hosted by the Austrian capital of Vienna, and expressed his pleasure with the positive outcome of the talks.

Fischer expressed the hope that once the deal is implemented, the grounds would be prepared for Iran’s reinforced ties with other countries, including Austria.

Austria’s foreign policy is based on collaborations that benefit both sides, Fischer said, adding that Vienna is interested in expanding its cooperation with Tehran.

“We will try to increase the value of economic exchanges between the two countries in the short-term, by the end of year, to $300 million,” he said, predicting that Iran-Austria mutual cooperation would increasingly grow in the future given the existing capacities.

Heading a high-ranking delegation of Austria’s economic, scientific and cultural officials, Fischer arrived in the Iranian capital of Tehran on Monday afternoon for an official three-day visit.
