Iran Ready to Cooperate with Japanese Automakers: Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Minister of Industry, Mine, and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh announced that the Islamic Republic is willing to cooperate with major Japanese companies, automakers in particular.

In the area of automotive industry, Iran is in talks with big automakers across the world, like Germany’s Volkswagen Group and Italy’s Fiat, Nematzadeh said in a meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and his accompanying delegation of directors of major Japanese firms.

“We are willing that the Japanese carmakers also have fundamental cooperation with Iran in the area,” he stated on Tuesday.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Nematzadeh emphasized that the Islamic Republic is also prepared to work with appliance manufacturers of the East Asian country.

Earlier on August 9, Japan’s vice-minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Daishiro Yamagiwa, after his meeting with Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh in Tehran, highlighted the strong willingness of Japanese companies to play a role in the Iranian market once anti-Iran sanctions are lifted.

“(Representatives of) the 21 companies who have come to Tehran as part of the Japanese delegation (actually) represent 1000 companies willing to visit Iran,” he said at the time.

“Iran and Japan have traditionally worked together in the fields of oil, energy, power, and car industry,” Yamagiwa stressed, adding that as well as enhanced collaborations in these areas, new fields of bilateral cooperation should be defined.

The remarks come against the backdrop of a new wave of renewed interest in ties with Iran after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14 reached a conclusion over the text of a comprehensive 159-page deal on Tehran's nuclear program.

The comprehensive nuclear deal between Iran and the six powers would terminate all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran after coming into force.

Experts believe that Iran's economic growth would rise remarkably after the final nuclear deal takes effect.
