Iranian President Congratulates Turkmenistan on Independence Day

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani offered his congratulations to Turkmenistan’s people and government over the Central Asian country’s Independence Day, hoping for the expansion of Tehran-Ashgabat relations in all spheres.

In a message to his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, President Rouhani congratulated him on Turkmenistan’s 24th anniversary of independence, which falls on October 27.

Rouhani also described relations between Tehran and Ashgabat as “age-old and historical” and expressed the hope that the friendly ties would further enhance in all areas through mutual cooperation between the two Muslim countries.

Iran’s chief executive also wished health and success for the government and nation of Turkmenistan.

Independence Day in Turkmenistan is an annual national holiday observed on October 27, commemorating the country’s independence form the former Soviet Union.

On October 27, 1991 the Supreme Council of the Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic adopted the law "About Independence and Bases of a State System of Turkmenistan".
