Rouhani Congratulates Ivory Coast's President on His Re-Election

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Alassane Ouattara on his victory in Ivory Coast’s presidential election to secure a second term in office.

In his congratulatory message on Tuesday, President Rouhani hoped mutual ties between Iran and the West African country would further flourish in diverse areas under President Ouattara’s second five-year term in office.

Rouhani wished good health and success for Mr. Ouattara, and prosperity for the Ivory Coast nation.

Alassane Quattara, a 73-year old economist, won a landslide victory over his closest rival Pascal Affi N’Guessan in the elections held on 25 October 2015.

President Quattara had said after his victory last month that the first peaceful presidential election since a 2011 civil war will allow his country to move on after years of turmoil.

More than 3,000 people were killed in a brief conflict sparked by ex-president Laurent Gbagbo's refusal to accept his defeat by Ouattara in the West African nation's last presidential poll in 2010.
