Iran to Adapt Civilian Plane into Air Ambulance

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRSC) said his organization is going to adapt a civilian passenger plane to serve as an air ambulance.

For the first time in the world, the IRCS will change a plane -to be offered by Iranian airline Mahan Air- into an aerial hospital, Seyed Amir Mohsen Ziaee said in a Wednesday meeting with heads of Iranian diplomatic missions abroad.

The hospital plane will allow the IRSC to provide immediate relief service for the injured in the contingencies, he added.

An air ambulance is a specially outfitted aircraft that transports injured or sick people in a medical emergency over the terrain that is difficult for the ground ambulances to reach.

Like ground ambulances, air ambulances are equipped with medical equipment vital to monitoring and treating the injured or ill patients.
