Protests Held in Washington to Condemn Saudi Policies
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Tasnim) – A group of US citizens and activists gathered outside Saudi Arabia embassy at Washington to voice their outrage over the oil rich country’s policies in Yemen, and to call for the release of the prominent Shiite cleric Sheikh al-Nimr.
According to Tasnim dispatches, hundreds of Shiite Muslims from northern states in the US arrived at Washington to demonstrate outside the embassy and the White house.
Chanting slogans such as “Saudis are terrorists” and “release Sheikh al-Nimr” outside the Saudi embassy, protesters then marched towards White House to continue demonstrations.
Ann Wright, retired US army colonel and former state department official who resigned one day ahead of the onset of the 2003 US invasion of the Iraq to protest the decision, also took part in the demonstration. She slammed White House for supporting Riyadh, even as photos of the Saudi-led war in Yemen depict the regime's crimes against the already impoverished people of the Arab country, are simply shocking.
