Iran’s Velayati Discuss Regional Issues with Lebanon’s Speaker Berri

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – International Adviser to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ali Akbar Velayati on Tuesday met the Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri in Beirut and conferred on bilateral ties as well as latest political developments in Lebanon.

The Iranian adviser in this meeting reaffirmed Tehran’s continued support for Lebanon, saying Iran's ties with Lebanon have always been deep.

He said Tehran will spare no effort in assisting the Arab country.

Velayati further hailed as “valuable and important” the role the two countries play in the region, and urged for expansion of Tehran-Beirut cooperation on regional and international scene.

As regards ongoing confrontation with Takfiri terrorist groups, Velayati said the Resistance front will definitely be the ultimate winner in the fight against terrorism.

Berri, for his part, underlined the necessity for increased cooperation and continued consultations between the two sides.

Velayati is accompanied by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian in this official visit to the Arab country.

Before arriving in Lebanon, he had visited the Syrian capital on Sunday and held talks with President Bashar al-Assad and a number of other senior officials of the Arab country.

Velayati, who is also head of the Strategic Research Center of Iran’s Expediency Council, reiterated Tehran’s full support for the Syrian government, saying that the Islamic Republic will continue to stand by and support the Syrian nation.
