Iran Takes Over IFSB Chairmanship for 2017

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Council of the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Valiollah Seif as the chairman of the international financial body for 2017.

In the 27th Meeting of the IFSB Council in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday, Iran was appointed as the chairman of the international financial body for the year 2017and deputy chairman for 2016.

Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt Tarek Amer also assumed the chairmanship of the IFSB for 2016.

The IFSB is an international standard-setting organization that promotes and enhances the soundness and stability of the Islamic financial services industry by issuing global prudential standards and guiding principles for the industry, broadly defined to include banking, capital markets and insurance sectors.

The IFSB also conducts research and coordinates initiatives on industry related issues, as well as organizes roundtables, seminars and conferences for regulators and industry stakeholders, according to the official website of the IFSB.
