US-Led Coalition Strikes on Syrian Army Possibly Not Accidental: Moscow

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The US-led coalition's airstrikes on the Syrian Army may not have been an accident and could be repeated, Russia's envoy to the UN Vitaly Churkin said Monday.

"Naturally, there is the suspicion that it was not accidental, and that despite all assurances given to the Syrian government that these strikes would not target the Syrian government's forces, the strikes target government troops from time to time," Churkin told RIA Novosti on Monday.

"This will intensify tensions and only complicate the situation in Syria. But let's hope it won't happen," he added.

The Syrian Army confirmed earlier in December that an airstrike on Syrian Army positions by US-led coalition in the Deir al Zor province killed three and wounded 13 servicemen.

The US-led force's campaign is allegedly targeting ISIL, which controls most of Deir Ezzor.

Deir Ezzor province links ISIL' de facto capital in Raqqa with territory controlled by the group in Iraq, and its oilfields are a major source of revenue for the group.
