JCPOA to Be Implemented by Weekend: Source

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A diplomatic source said Wednesday that the nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers will be implemented by the end of the week.

“The so-called implementation day will happen at the end of the week,” the diplomatic source told RIA Novosti.

Earlier, European Union's Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini said that no exact date has been set yet for implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan Action (JCPOA) and removal of anti-Tehran sanctions, but that the move could come soon.

"There is no set date yet. The date is going to be related to the full implementation of all the steps that need to be taken," she said at a news conference on Monday.

"I can tell you that my expectation is that this day could come rather soon. The implementation of the agreements is proceeding well,” she added.

On January 10, Iran and six world powers wrapped up expert-level talks in the Austrian city of Geneva.

During the two-day meeting, the two sides’ experts tried to finalize measures prior to the implementation of the deal.

The Iranian delegation was chaired by Foreign Ministry's Director General for International and Political Affairs Hamid Baeedinejad.

“The countdown has begun for the implementation day and the removal of (anti-Iran) sanctions,” Baeedinejad said in a message shared on his Instagram page.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached the nuclear deal on July 14, 2015 after several rounds of intensive diplomatic talks.

The agreement would see the removal of nuclear-related sanctions against Iran.
