Germany’s Daimler Seeks Swift Return to Iran Market
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Germany’s Daimler AG, the maker of Mercedes-Benz cars, said it plans to regain its previous position in Iran market following the termination of anti-Tehran sanctions.
The German truck maker said that it has signed letters of intent with Iran Khodro Diesel and Mammut group to start a “comprehensive re-entry into the Iranian market”, the Financial Times reported on Monday.
“We plan to quickly resume our business activities in the market there,” Daimler Trucks head Wolfgang Bernhard said.
He added that the agreements include a joint venture for the local production of Mercedes Benz trucks, as well as the establishment of a sales company.
Bernhard said the company will also set up an office in Tehran by the end of March, adding the first Mercedes-Benz trucks could be supplied by the end of the year.
It came after Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and European Union’s Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini on Saturday announced in a joint statement that the implementation of the nuclear deal finalized between Tehran and world powers back in July 2015 has officially been started.
The announcement was made after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed Iran’s commitment to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
