Leader’s Top Aide Calls Iran, Russia's Regional, Int'l Role "Influential"

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Ali Akbar Velayati, an international adviser to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, described Iran-Russia’s role both in the region and the world as influential, adding that the two countries can help promote peace at the international level.

Iran and Russia “can play a very constructive role in establishing peace and (creating) a suitable condition for (promoting) international interactions,” Velayati said ahead of his departure for Moscow.

The top Iranian official arrived in Moscow early on Monday to hold talks with top Russian officials. The visit came at the invitation of Director of the Russian Institute of Strategic Studies, Leonid Petrovich Reshetnikov.

Velayati further branded Iran and Russia as two influential countries in both the region and the world.

Pointing to his four-day visit to Moscow, he said that the trip is in line with the "accomplishment of the strategic policies” of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Press TV reported on Monday.

Velayati, who is also the head of the Strategic Research Center of Iran's Expediency Council, added that during the visit he will sit down with senior officials from the Russian Federation. He is also scheduled to address a press conference in Moscow.

The senior Iranian official paid a visit to Moscow in January, 2015 as a special envoy for Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, during which he submitted the Iranian president’s message to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
