Some 4,600 Flood Victims Evacuated in Western Malaysia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Around 4,600 people have been placed in evacuation centers in Malaysia’s Malacca region over heavy flooding in the country’s west, local media reported Monday.

According to the New Straits Times newspaper, the 1,005 families are being placed in 13 evacuation centers across the state, Sputnik News reported.

On Sunday, local media reported that a boy had drowned in the floods, caused by heavy rain, in the neighboring district of Ledang.

Floods in Malaysia are regular natural disasters which happen nearly every year. Inadequate drainage in many urban areas also enhance the effects of heavy rain, though efforts are underway to resolve this.
