MP: Iran’s Military Might Deters Enemies

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker praised the country’s military power and said that such defensive capabilities have dissuaded the enemies from taking any military action against the Islamic Republic.

“Today, the Islamic Republic’ military power has reached such a (high) level that the enemies dare not attack (the country),” Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi told a gathering of defense ministry officials in Tehran on Saturday.

“With the help of God, we have reached the highest level of defensive might and become one of the world’s biggest powers in terms of missile capabilities,” he said.

Today, Iran is the most powerful country in the region and takes whatever action it deems necessary to preserve the interests of the country and Islam, the Iranian parliamentarian noted.

He also reiterated that Iran’s defense doctrine is based solely on deterrence, saying that the country’s defense ministry is not a “ministry of war” but it is a ministry with a “defensive strategy”.

The Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.

Tehran has always assured other nations that its military might poses no threat to the regional countries, saying that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
