Army Retakes 2 More Areas in Eastern Mosul: Iraqi Commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iraqi commander said the Arab country’s army has managed to liberate two more neighborhoods in Mosul from the grip of Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists.

The commander of Nineveh Liberation Operation, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Yarallah, said on Sunday that the areas of al-Milayeen and al-Binaa al-Jahiz were recaptured after the army troops stepped their attacks against the Daesh militants in eastern Mosul, Lebanese news channel Al-Manar reported.

Yarallah also said that troops had seized control over the road linking Mosul to the northern city of Dohuk in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.

Members of the 9th Armored Division in the Iraqi Army regained the road linking Bahwiza neighborhood in northern Mosul to the Assyrian town of Tel Keppe, he added.

On October 16, 2016, the Iraqi army backed by Federal Police and Popular Mobilization Units, also known as Hashd al-Shaabi, launched the massive operation to retake Mosul.

In recent years, Iraq has been facing the threat of terrorism, mainly posed by the Daesh terrorist group.
